The Value Of A Hub

The Value of a Hub
Recently, my friend, Vern, wrote a humorous piece on the evolution of Hubpages from it's lowly beginnings in a Berkeley garage into the household name it is becoming. His hub got me thinking about the true value of Hubpages and our hubs..
No, I am not referring to the monetary value of a hub or Hubpages, although I am quite certain that the creators of Hubpages never regret the decision to build their empire on their way to the bank. What I refer to is the human value of Hubpages.
This place has created a community for so many of us. We join together in each others personal experiences and recognize emotions and feelings in each others writing, running the full gamut from love to hatred, pain to bliss. We comfort each other in grief and congratulate each other in moments of triumph. In short, Hubbers have become a sort of family dynamic where people of all sorts are welcome, simply because they belong here just as much as the next person.
I recently discovered another place where Hubpages can be very valuable. As some of you may know, my uncle Harry passed away December 19,2009. To say the least, my family life is a little strange so I have lost contact with many of my relatives over the years. I spent a few days tracking down clues about my uncles death on Google to find out what had happened and I wanted to pay my respects so I posted his obituary and my thoughts in the hub, Another Marine Was Lost. In a couple of days, I had received a comment from a woman who had lived with my uncle for 15 years and loved him dearly. Through her, I found out that I also have two cousins I did not know about.
I'm proud to say that my hub is the only place on the Internet with a corrected obituary for my uncle that lists all of his children. That is part of the value of Hubpages. It brings light into areas of darkness. It allows us to find out things about ourselves that we did not know. It gives us the opportunity to set the wrongs of the world right again.
As I close this hub, I would like to take a moment to thank the creators of Hubpages for this wonderful community and ask you, the reader, to remember the value of your hubs. Other readers are listening to what you have to say. We are here to share in your experiences and let you be part of our own. You never know who may be reading your posts.

I have re-connected with some people as a result of things I wrote here also, so I know how powerful this place can be. Have also received much support and helpfuol criticism here.
It is a great place to write, indeed.
Thanks for sharing your experience here.
Love and peace

For sure I must agree. HubPages community rocks, and I have made wonderful friends here in a relative short time (5 weeks)
I am amazed about the link to your family, this is wonderful.
From me: Big Thankyou for the initiators of this place. They may enjoy every penny coming to them.
Ns: By the way I adore the kids in the photos. They appear to be so happy and balanced.
If you percieve them as far from balanced, then they are!
Enjoy them, they grow up just a bit too quickly....
I came back and my comment above turned out to be quite awkward. Think I was distracted when I was busy writing this. My sentence was not finished. What I meant to say was:
If you perceive them as far from balanced, then they are perfect children!
When they leave the nest one day, you will see they could never have been better. I still see the unity and love amongst your little family. A Rare phenomenon!
Yes hubpages is a growing organism alive with ideas and useful in many unexpected ways. I bumped into this hub by pure chance, but enjoyed the experience. Cheers from Melbourne
According to Cubestat.com, Hubpages is worth over 12 million dollars!
And that's just the monetary value. You're right: there's a quality community here that you don't find just anywhere.

Yes, you never know who may be reading your hubs. That is the wild part and the wonder filled part. Going to check out the hub on your Uncle. That "thing" about six degrees or eight degrees, whatever it is, IT IS a very small world and I think our hubbing is making it even smaller, certainly as your experience points out. Keep on Hubbing, Man. There must be some connection between hubs and the telescope because we are reaching way out there. Perhaps beyond our own imaginations.
